Pauliina Tukiainen Pianist

About

Praised for her warmth of tone and flexibility of phrasing, Pauliina Tukiainen’s passion for the art of Lied transcends the concert stage. Alongside her role as Lied Professor at Mozarteum University, she frequently gives masterclasses and features as a jury member of competitions.

The Finnish pianist Pauliina Tukiainen has gained a reputation as a wide-ranging interpreter and professor for Lied interpretation. She studied piano in her native country and in Frankfurt am Main, and won numerous prizes and scholarships during her Art Song studies with Hartmut Höll and Anne Le Bozec in Zurich and Karlsruhe.

She received further artistic impulses from Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Ralf Gothoni, Thomas Hampson, Christoph Prégardien and Wolfgang Rihm.

Pauliina Tukiainen has given song recitals in renowned concert halls and international festivals such as Berlin State Opera, Musikverein in Wien, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Bodensee Festival, the Enescu Festival in Bukarest, Fundación Juan March in Madrid, Tonhalle Zurich, the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, Konserthus Oslo, the Cape Classic Festival in South Africa, the Mehli Mehta Foundation in India, and Saigon Opera House, Vietnam.

Many of her concerts have been recorded live by international broadcasting companies. Her highly acclaimed debut CD, „Mirrors“, including chamber music and songs by Kaija Saariaho and Jean Sibelius, was released by Coviello Classics in 2013 followed by CDs with songs by Alban Berg, Claude Debussy, Robert Schumann, Richard Wagner and the world premiere of Wolfgang Rihm’s „Ophelia Sings“. Her recording „Serious Songs“ by Alba Records with the Finnish baritone Arttu Kataja was nominated album of the year by the Finnish broadcasting company Yle. Her most recent CD by Alba Records is Schubert’s “Winterreise” with Arttu Kataja, released in January 2022.

Pauliina Tukiainen shares an extensive connection with the Bonner Schumannfest where she has also been appointed artistic advisor, as which she created a podium for younger Liedduos.
She has taught at the music universities of Frankfurt am Main and Freiburg. Furthermore, she is an internationally sought-after jury member and lecturer for masterclasses and workshops.
